Books to Read if You Like Colleen Hoover
1.) Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score
Colleen Hoover perfectly incorporates romantic story lines with the inner turmoil of her protagonists as they navigate real world situations. If you are looking for a good mix of steamy romance, a healthy dose of comedic relief, and suspense, Lucy Score’s Things We Never Got Over is for you.
In Things We Never Got Over, the protagonist, Naomi’s, whole life has fallen apart. She works to piece it together and meets some new friends along the way. Lucy Score’s Knockemount series makes you fall in love with the quaint town and all of the quirky side characters, who all end up being important in the end. This book is a romance novel with a side of action and plot twists. A classic enemies to lovers tale that has the twists and turns you’re looking for.

2.) People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry
Sometimes you need a break from the enemies to lovers romance plot (hear me out!). People We Meet On Vacation really opened my eyes to how great a friends to lovers storyline can be.
This romantic comedy is a feel good book that sucks you into the storyline of a long friendship. Two best friends have been travelling together every summer for a decade up until a wild night changes things between them. With flashbacks between their present day lives and the vacations they have taken together, we learn about how the protagonist actually loves her best friend.
Much like Colleen Hoover, Emily Henry touches on a very real human emotion and situation. She weaves a beautiful story of the complicated world of friendship and love. Most endearingly, the protagonist of People We Meet on Vacation deals with loneliness and tackling her inner problems, a relatable and moving journey told in a light-hearted and fun style.
3.) Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan
Colleen Hoover creates story lines of characters with complex pasts and traumas and makes them lovable and relatable. In Reminders of Him, Kenna goes to prison for five years and is seen as the villian by many. Hoover reveals the complicated nature of Kenna’s past and the redemption for her child through Ledger.
Archer’s Voice perfectly encapsulates the heartbreak of being misunderstood by others and the power true love has to heal the wounds of the past. This book outlines the story of Bree and Archer. Both characters are healing complex traumas and are learning how to trust again. Archer’s Voice is more than romance. It is an intense love story that is so endearing you will not be able to put this book down.
4.) The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
If an untrustworthy narrator and suspense are what you like about Colleen Hoover’s books (like Verity), The Silent Patient is perfect for you.
Basically, Alicia Bernson killed her husband and got locked up in a psychiatric ward. She refuses to talk and nobody knows her motives behind killing her husband. Psychotherapist, Theo Faber, believes he can “fix her”. This story goes between Theo’s inner dialogue and Alicia’s diary entries. Finding out what is fantasy and what’s fact is the journey of this book. The plot twist at the end is well worth the read!
5.) The Housemaid by Frieda McFadden
The Housemaid is another amazing book to read if you like Colleen Hoover. This storis a mystery that slowly unravels itself. So, if you just came off the high of reading Verity, I suggest The Housewife. It is similar enough that it will satiate your psychological thriller needs.
Millie gets hired as a maid by the wealthy Nina Winchester. With Millie’s criminal past, Nina’s mental health problems, and the handsome, Mr. Winchester, this story gets messy really quickly! It seems like everyone in this book has something to hide. McFadden slowly reveals the truth page by page as you learn more about Millie and the Winchesters. The Housemaid is a page turning thriller that will keep you up all night!
6.) Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Of course, Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid is a must of books to read if you like Colleen Hoover. If you fell in love with Colleen Hoover for the touching romance, Maybe in Another Life was meant for you.
Hannah is going through a crisis and the problem comes to a head when she is left with the decision of staying with her best friend Gabby or going with her high school boyfriend, Ethan when she returns to her hometown bar. This book goes back and forth between two alternate storylines. One where she tries her luck and goes with Ethan and the other where she stays with Gabby.
Taylor Jenkins Reid weaves a beautiful story about the possibility of soulmates and the power of true friendship.
This is a coming of age story that is beyond relatable for young women who are figuring out their messy, beautiful lives.
7.) The Other Son by Nick Alexander
Next, The Other Son touches on events that are similar to It Ends With Us. There are heavy themes in this book (themes of domestic violence) but the catharsis is important and well worth the read. This novel outlines Alice and her family who appear happy and perfect on the outside. While it may look perfect on the outside, Alice has secrets she has hidden for far too long. Alice now wonders if she can show the world the truth and who will rally behind her.
The characters in The Other Son are raw, real, and sometimes unlikable. The characters are deeply human; it makes this book hard to put down.
8.) Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
Dark and creepy with a side of head strong female lead? Yes please. This twist on a classic gothic novel sucks you in.
This story is set in the 1950’s and follows Noamí as she tries to uncover the mysterious letter she received form her cousin, beckoning her to a strange house in the Mexican countryside. Moreno-Garcia creates a dark and twisted world where mystery thrives and Noamí is tasked with finding the truth. This book is a little different but that’s what makes it such a good read.
9.) No More Secrets by Lucy Score
Another ooey gooey romance with plenty of spice is No More Secrets by Lucy Score. Reminder, nobody does romantic comedies like Lucy Score. She incorporates the perfect amount of amazing plot development with steamy romance scenes. No More Secrets is the first of the Blue Moon series.
This romance book has a strong female lead who is tasked with finding out what she really wants out of life. This is a feel good, easy read that just leaves you satisfied.
10.) The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren
My next recommendation is The Unhoneymooners. Not so close friends, Ethan and Olive, are forced to go on a honeymoon together, due to some unfortunate circumstances. Some lies get them in to a situation where they have to pretend to be newlyweds. This hilarious story follows Olive and Ethan in a classic enemies to lovers fashion while also touching on some more touching subjects like cheating and toxic relationships.
This book is for lovers of rom-coms with some sentimental moments of reflection.
11.) The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood
Lastly, The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood falls on my books to read if you like Colleen Hoover for several reasons. This book has the themes of steamy romance and strong female lead that Colleen perfectly embodies.
If you are a fan of smart, goal driven women who find love along the way, this book is for you. The perfect mix of adorableness, sexiness, and plot, this book has it all!
Whatever element of Hoover’s writing drew you in in the first place, this list offers a catalogue of various novels that are sure to hook you in! Spanning many genres from psychological thrillers, love stories, to romantic comedies, you are sure to find your next favorite read on this blog.
